The Roman Catholic Church of
Epiphany was built in 1954, with a seating capacity of 550.
It was blessed and dedicated in November of the same year by
the Most Reverend Bartholomew Eustace, Bishop of Camden
Diocese. Reverend Father William F. Doyle named the new
church, Epiphany, which means “proclamation of our
Lord’s divinity.”
Beginning as a mission of
Blessed Sacrament in Margate, Epiphany was established as a
parish in June of 1958, and the mission became a parish with
Father Joseph E. Budniak as its first pastor.
After 45 years Epiphany slated
for expansion, and through the efforts and dedication of the
parish family, in October of 2000 parishioners of the
Longport Church celebrated the opening of their parish hall,
located behind the church. The community hall was named
after long time Longport resident Oliver Totaro, one of its
most generous contributors.
The
Parish had a fitting celebration of its 50th
Anniversary in 2004. The church attached to parish Totaro
Hall and adjacent to the rectory is located at 29th
and Ventnor Avenues.
